Devices and slots
Premium is per account, not per device, and it covers a fixed number of devices of any kind: phones, tablets, TVs and computers in any mix.
| Devices of any kind | |
|---|---|
| Premium | 4 |
| Premium + Family Devices | 8 |
Family Devices is a one-off add-on that adds four more devices of any kind. It needs active Premium and does nothing on its own.
Which devices hold the slots
Section titled “Which devices hold the slots”The ones already on the account. A new device gets a slot only when one is free, so an old phone in a drawer keeps its slot until you remove it. Removing any device frees a slot for any other, so a phone you remove makes room for a TV. If the account ends up covering fewer devices than it holds, for example when Family Devices ends, the most recently seen ones keep their slots.
A device over the limit says so plainly. The message reads Over the limit — remove another device to use this one, rather than degrading silently.
Seeing and removing them
Section titled “Seeing and removing them”Settings → Devices shows every device on the account once, in sections:
| Section | What is in it |
|---|---|
| Subscription devices | On a phone: how many devices your plan covers and how many are used, and Get Family devices when you could add them. On a television this sits at the top of Your devices |
| Connect a device | Enter the code another device shows, to sign it in or send it a playlist. A phone can also Show this device’s code, to pull playlists over from a device that already has them |
| Your devices | This device first, then the others, most recently seen first, each with its kind, its platform and when it was last seen |
| Recent device changes | The last few devices that were added or removed |
From Your devices you can:
- Remove a device. The app asks first, Remove …?: it loses access to your subscription and frees its slot at once, and the removed device loses access the next time it starts, at the latest.
- Send your data to another device of yours, see Moving to another device. It goes only to a device that has IPTV Deck open right now: on a phone the send button shows only next to a device that is online, and a television says Open IPTV Deck on … first — it can only receive while the app is open.
- Rename a device (the pencil on a phone), see Naming a device.
- Copy its settings here, to give this device the settings of another one, see Copying settings from another device.
- On a phone, control a television by tapping it, or wake one that is asleep with its power button, see Watch on TV. On an Android phone, holding a television sets up waking it.
Each row says whether the device is Online, Asleep or when it was Last seen.
On a television, a computer and LG and Samsung TVs, Connect a device comes first and needs this device signed in. Below it, Your devices says how many devices your subscription covers. Press OK on a device (click it on a computer) for Send your data, Copy its settings here, Rename and Remove …, which asks first and offers Keep it.
A removed device can be added back after 24 hours. Until then it shows when it can return, and it cannot remove other devices. An account can remove up to 10 devices a day.
Signing out on a device frees its slot by itself, without the 24-hour wait and without counting towards the 10 removals, see Signing out. Removing a device here is for one you cannot reach any more.
When a device over the limit opens, it shows Too many devices with your devices, so you can remove one right there. A removed device shows Removed from your account and from when it can come back. After 10 removals in a day the app says so and waits until the next day.
Naming a device
Section titled “Naming a device”Every device can have a name of your choosing, such as Work PC or Bedroom TV, and every device on your account shows it: in Settings → Devices, in Watch on TV and in the account panel.
| Where | How |
|---|---|
| Phone and tablet | Settings → Devices, the pencil in the row of any device |
| Television, Windows, the Mac and LG and Samsung TVs | Settings → Devices: OK on this device’s row (marked this device), or OK on another device and Rename |
| Account panel | Devices, open a device, the Name row, then Save |
A name can be up to 64 characters. An empty field gives the device back the name it gives itself:
| Device | Name it gives itself |
|---|---|
| Windows and the Mac | The computer name |
| Android phones and tablets, Android TV, Fire TV | The device name from its Android settings |
| iPhone, iPad, Apple TV | iPhone, iPad or Apple TV |
| LG and Samsung TVs | LG TV or Samsung TV |
A name you chose stays when the device starts again. Two devices with the same name are still two devices.
Copying settings from another device
Section titled “Copying settings from another device”You can give one device the settings of another, for example a new TV the player, subtitles and remote buttons of the TV you already set up.
In the app, on the device that should get the settings:
- Open Settings → Devices.
- On a phone or tablet, tap the copy button (two squares) next to the other device. On Android TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, Windows, the Mac and LG and Samsung TVs, press OK on the other device (click it on a computer).
- Choose Copy its settings here. The app reads that device’s settings and lists them in groups. Each group says Changes here: and a number, or Already the same here.
- Leave on the groups you want and turn off the others, then choose Copy to this device.
In the account panel, open Device settings and pick a device. Copy from another device brings the settings of a device you choose under From to this one. Copy to other devices sends this device’s settings to the devices you tick. Untick a group to leave it out. The message after copying has Undo.
The groups are:
| Group | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Player and buffering | The player engines, buffer size, Timeshift, hardware decoding, audio, frame rate, zoom and aspect, skip steps, player controls, the other video player |
| Subtitles | Subtitle size, colour, background and position |
| Look and layout | The look, channel logo background, interface, list and menu size, the columns, the side menu and the bottom tabs |
| Home and sports | The start screen, the Home rows, the channel that plays at start, the Sports options for Home and in the player, kick-off and goal alerts |
| Guide, recordings and titles | How long the guide is kept, where to record, recording padding, the services for titles |
| Remote buttons | What each remote button does |
What is not copied:
- Settings the receiving device does not have. They stay as they are there, and the panel says how many of them do not exist on that device.
- The live stream format of a playlist, unless both devices are the same kind, such as two Android TVs.
- Settings that belong to one device on purpose: Run in the background and Record for other devices on a computer, the tablet layout, Alerts when IPTV Deck is closed, the PIN lock of a network folder, the Profile this device opens in, and the questions asked at the first start.
Afterwards each device keeps its own settings. A later change on one device does not reach the other.
The copy needs the other device to have saved its settings to your account. If it has not, the app says … has not saved its settings to your account yet. Open IPTV Deck on it while signed in, then try again. With Settings turned off in Settings → Sync the app says Turn on Settings in Sync to copy settings between devices. With end-to-end encryption on, unlock it first.
The same device twice
Section titled “The same device twice”A device can appear twice when the app on it was installed from two different places, for example from Google Play and from a file, because each install introduces itself as a new device.
On Android the app sorts that out by itself when it can tell: the same model, installed from a different source, and the older entry not seen since. The new install then takes over the place of the earlier one. An entry it recognises that way but could not take over says An earlier install on this device. Remove it to free its place; it can be added back at any time, and removing it has no waiting day.
Anything it cannot tell apart keeps the older note, Same name as a newer device. If it is an old install, remove it to free its place, and is never removed for you. Two identical phones in one family look exactly the same, and a removed device waits a day before it can come back.
Every kind counts the same
Section titled “Every kind counts the same”A phone, a tablet, an Android TV, a Fire TV, an Apple TV, a Windows PC, a Mac and an LG or Samsung TV each take one slot from the same pool. Your devices still shows the kind of each one, but the kind does not decide whether it fits. A tablet running the television layout is still one device: the layout is a preference, not an extra device.
