Reminders

Reminders are available on Android phones and tablets, Android TV, Fire TV, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.

  • Phone and tablet: in the guide, tap a future programme and tap Set reminder. Search results for a programme offer the same.
  • Television: in the TV Guide, hold OK on a future programme and pick Set reminder. OK alone on a future programme sets it too.

The same place shows Remove reminder once it is set. On a phone the notification arrives with the app closed. Reminders follow your account, so a reminder set on the television reaches your phone, where it sends a real notification even when the TV is off.

Settings → Reminders lists everything scheduled. On a phone it is under Saved & scheduled: tap reminders to select and remove them. On a television it is under Playback, with what is Upcoming; press OK on one to remove it.

Kick-off alerts for what you follow in Sports are listed in Settings → Reminders too, under Kick-off alerts, on the phone and on a television. To silence one match:

  • Phone and tablet: tap the bell next to the match.
  • Television: press OK on the match.

That match stays quiet on all your devices, and you keep following the team. The Sports page of the account panel lists the matches you removed under Kick-off alerts you removed, with a button that brings the alert back.

When the programme starts, the television shows a Starting now panel over whatever is playing, while IPTV Deck is open. Switch now goes to the channel, Dismiss closes the panel, and it closes by itself after 30 seconds. The player takes every key while it is open, so the panel is caught by the player itself rather than by the screen behind it.

A reminder shows whichever profile is watching, with Reminder of and the name of the profile that set it, unless that profile cannot see the channel.

On Android TV the same card can show over other apps while IPTV Deck is closed: turn on Alerts when IPTV Deck is closed in Settings → Reminders (off by default, set on each TV; the account panel shows it but cannot change it). The television asks once for permission to display over other apps, and the row Allow display over other apps below it shows whether that is granted. Kick-off alerts from Sports come the same way.

Apple TV cannot show a reminder while IPTV Deck is closed. A reminder shows as the Starting now panel only while the app is open, and the guide says so when you set it: Shows here at .

Android 14 and newer do not grant apps the right to set exact alarms by default, and IPTV Deck aims at a recent Android. Without that right the system falls back to a looser alarm: the reminder is not lost, it is held back until the phone wakes up.

The app notices and shows a row titled Reminders arriving late?, with the line Android holds them back unless IPTV Deck may set exact alarms. Tap to open Alarms & reminders and allow it.

To do it by hand: Settings → Apps → IPTV Deck → Alarms & reminders in Android’s own settings. The same permission lets scheduled recordings start on time with the app closed.

Separately, if notifications themselves are off you get: This reminder is saved, but it cannot alert you until notifications are allowed. That is Settings → Apps → IPTV Deck → Notifications.

A reminder nudges you. A recording captures the programme whether you are there or not, but on a channel without an archive it has to capture it live, which on some devices means the app must be open at the time. When you schedule one on such a channel, the app says so and offers to set a reminder as well: Schedule + remind me on a phone, Record and set a reminder on a television.
