Downloads for offline
Whole films and single episodes can be downloaded and watched with no connection at all.
Available on Android phones and tablets, Android TV, Fire TV, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Windows and the Mac. Not on LG and Samsung TVs.
Downloading
Section titled “Downloading”- A film: Download among the actions on its page.
- One episode: the button on the episode row, or hold OK on the episode on a television.
- A whole season: Download among the actions of the series, on the phone and on the television. It asks before it starts, because a season is a lot of megabytes.
Progress shows on the tile and in Downloads: Queued, Downloading · N%, Paused · N%, Downloaded or Download failed. While a download reconnects after a dropped connection it says Reconnecting · attempt N.
A dropped connection resumes the download rather than starting it over.
While the app is closed
Section titled “While the app is closed”- Android, Android TV, Fire TV: a download carries on when you leave the app, with a notification while it runs.
- iPhone and iPad: from version 1.8.6, a download to IPTV Deck’s own folder or to a network folder keeps going when you leave the app or lock the screen, and is there when you come back. A download to a folder you chose with Choose folder… runs only while IPTV Deck is open.
- Apple TV: from version 1.8.6, downloads keep going when you leave IPTV Deck.
- iPhone, iPad and Apple TV: closing the app by swiping it away in the app switcher stops its downloads; they go on from where they stopped the next time you open it. Before a download from an Xtream playlist starts, the app checks that your provider account has a free stream, and waits with Waiting for a free stream from your provider while it has none.
Where they are
Section titled “Where they are”Downloads lists them: a row in Settings under Saved & scheduled on the phone, a download icon in the Home header once something is downloaded or queued, and an item on the television rail that appears once something is downloaded or a network folder is set up. On Windows and the Mac it is Downloads in the side menu.
| Device | Where to choose the folder | What you can pick |
|---|---|---|
| Android phone and tablet | Settings → Storage → Downloads saved to | Internal storage, an SD card or a USB stick |
| Android TV, Fire TV | Settings → Downloads | Internal storage or a USB stick |
| iPhone and iPad | Settings → Storage → Downloads saved to | App folder, or Choose folder… for any folder in Files, such as iCloud Drive, a folder on the iPhone or a USB drive |
| Apple TV | Settings → Downloads | The Apple TV cache, or a network folder |
| Windows and Mac | Settings → Downloads | Choose folder… for any folder, or Use the app folder |
A new folder applies to new downloads; what you already saved stays where it is. On the iPhone and iPad a folder you rename or move in Files is followed. On the Mac a folder you move or rename in Finder is followed too: films saved there still play and new ones go to its new place. If you delete the folder, the Mac app tells you to choose another one.
A downloaded title plays from the file: no provider, no connection, no buffering. Subtitles embedded in the file open at once.
On Apple TV
Section titled “On Apple TV”Download on the page of a film or an episode saves it, and Downloads plays it. Downloads stay in the Apple TV cache, which Apple TV may clear when it runs low on space while the app is closed, together with IPTV Deck’s other data. For something you want to keep, choose a network folder instead. A download needs enough free space to start, and when downloads and recordings already fill half of the space the app can use, it says so and asks you to delete some first.
Sharing a download from the iPhone or iPad
Section titled “Sharing a download from the iPhone or iPad”A finished download has a Share button in Downloads: send the film or episode to another device with AirDrop, save it to the Files app, iCloud Drive or a USB drive, or open it in another app. It is not offered for files kept in a network folder.
Each profile has its own
Section titled “Each profile has its own”Downloads belong to the profile that saved them. A Kids profile sees only its own; an adult can turn on All profiles on this device on the Downloads screen to see everything this device keeps. The same film saved by two profiles is kept once, and deleting it removes it for everyone.
A network folder
Section titled “A network folder”Downloads and recordings can go to a shared folder of a NAS or a computer on your network instead of the device itself.
| Device | Where |
|---|---|
| Android phone and tablet, iPhone, iPad | Settings → Storage → Network folders |
| Android TV, Fire TV, Apple TV | Network folders in Settings → Downloads or Settings → Recordings |
| Windows | Choose folder… in Settings → Downloads or Settings → Recordings, pointing at a folder on a network share or a mapped network drive |
| Mac | Choose folder… in Settings → Downloads or Settings → Recordings, on a network volume you connected in Finder |
| Linux | Choose folder… in Settings → Downloads or Settings → Recordings, on a network share mounted in your file manager |
To add one on a phone, tablet or television:
- Open Network folders and pick Add a network folder.
- Fill in Server and shared folder, then Username and Password. Leave the username empty for a guest share.
- Pick Connect. The app checks that it can write there before it saves the folder.
- Choose the network folder as where downloads or recordings are saved.
Removing a network folder leaves the files on the server; the device forgets the password.
On the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV a download or recording is written on the device first and moved to the network folder when it is finished.
Every device that saves to the same network folder lists and plays what the others saved there: films, episodes and recordings, marked Saved by another device. Downloads also lets you browse the folder itself, with the folder button at the top of the screen on a phone and Browse network folder on a television, and play films you copied there yourself, with titles taken from the file names.
A film or episode you delete from the network folder, on the NAS itself or from any computer, also leaves Downloads on the device that saved it. That is how a download of a lost or replaced device is removed.
Lock the network folder, next to the folder in the settings (off by default), hides it from Kids profiles; other profiles open it with the parental PIN. It is set on each device and is not in the account panel.
If the folder cannot be reached, the app says The network folder is not reachable. Check that the server is on and this device is on the same network.
On the desktop
Section titled “On the desktop”Windows and the Mac have Download on the film page, on the series page and on the episode row, with a Downloads screen in the side menu.
A downloaded file with Dolby audio plays on the desktop too, with picture, sound and a working seek bar, and the subtitles keep up with the picture.
Managing downloads
Section titled “Managing downloads”In Downloads, a finished download offers Play (and Share on the iPhone and iPad), a running one Pause download and Cancel download, a paused one Resume download, and a failed one Retry. Deleting asks once, and the safe answer has the focus: Delete this download? with Delete and Keep, or Stop this download? with Stop and delete and Keep downloading.
When a download will not finish
Section titled “When a download will not finish”- It failed immediately, usually the provider refusing, often because something else is already playing on your account and the provider allows one stream at a time.
- It stalls near the end, the provider dropped the connection. Retry resumes from where it stopped.
- There is no room: Not enough storage space. Free some, then retry; the queue keeps the item.
- The drive is missing: a USB stick or SD card you picked is not connected. Connect it, or choose another place in Settings.
- On Apple TV it vanished: Apple TV cleared its cache. Download it again, or use a network folder.
