Moving to another device

Setting up a second device should not mean typing a provider password with a remote. It does not.

A device you are setting up shows a QR code and an 8-character code. There are two kinds, and they do different things:

CodeWhere the new device shows itWhat it does
Sign-in codeThe sign-in screen of a TV, Sign in to IPTV Deck. On a phone, Sign in from another device on the first screen or the sign-in screenSigns the new device in to your account. Your data then arrives through sync, and the playlists come with their passwords
Playlist codeAdd your first playlist or Settings → Playlists → Add a playlist on a TV. On a phone, Add playlist → Get a playlist from another device, or Settings → Devices → Show this device’s codeSends one playlist or all of them, with their passwords. It does not sign the new device in

Either way you approve it on a device that already has everything: scan the QR code with the phone camera, which opens IPTV Deck, or type the code under Settings → Devices → Connect a device.

  • A code is good for 15 minutes. A TV makes a new one by itself.
  • The two devices do not need to be on the same network: the transfer goes through your account.
  • Nothing is typed on the remote at any point.
  1. Start IPTV Deck on the television. The sign-in screen shows a QR code, the code and Waiting for approval….

  2. Scan the QR code with a phone that is signed in, or type the code in Settings → Devices → Connect a device and press Continue.

  3. The phone asks Sign in on your TV: it says which sign-ins come along. Choose Sign this TV in.

  4. For each playlist, choose what the TV loads:

    • Use setup from this device: the same categories as the phone,
    • Leave the TV as it is,
    • Configure manually: pick the categories one by one.

When the phone cannot list the categories, it offers Load every category on the TV.

  5. The television says Signed in — your playlists are syncing and starts downloading.

A new phone works the same way: on the new phone choose Sign in from another device (Use another device), and approve its code on the old phone or on a television.

  1. On the new device, open Add your first playlist on a TV, or Add playlist → Get a playlist from another device on a phone. It shows a code.
  2. On the device that has the playlist, scan it or type it in Settings → Devices → Connect a device.
  3. Choose Send everything, or pick one playlist.
  4. The new device loads it and ends on Playlist ready.

Use this when the new device should not be signed in to your account, or is signed in to somebody else’s.

A television can approve a code too, in Settings → Devices → Connect a device, once it is signed in. A code that asks for something only a phone can do says That code asks for something this TV cannot approve. Finish it on a phone.

  • your playlists, including their provider passwords and MAC addresses, encrypted end to end between the two devices,
  • which playlists you had open, so the new device opens the same ones rather than guessing,
  • your category choices, so the new device downloads the same subset,
  • your OpenSubtitles, TMDB and Google Gemini sign-ins. A Trakt or SIMKL sign-in does not travel this way: it reaches your other devices through Keep my passwords in my account, or is connected with a code on each one.

Everything else (favourites, groups, history, profiles, settings) arrives on its own through sync as soon as both devices are signed in to the same account.

The QR code never carries your encryption key. A device that then says Sync is locked gets the key with Send your data, below.

Settings → Devices → Your devices, then the send button next to a device. On a television, press OK on the device and choose Send your data. You can send a playlist, your category selections and your integration sign-ins at any time, and, when your data is encrypted, the key.

The other device has to have IPTV Deck open. A phone shows the send button only for a device that is online, and a television says Open IPTV Deck on … first — it can only receive while the app is open.

Each send asks what the receiving device should do, and leave it as it is is always an option, so sending a playlist never silently rearranges a television somebody is watching.

The account panel can send playlist passwords, sign-ins and the key to a device too, under Devices.

A paired television that is asleep shows a power button in Settings → Devices on the phone, and the row says Asleep · tap the power button to turn it on.

  • A television with Chromecast built in, such as a Google TV, turns on by itself when an Android phone or an iPhone on the same Wi-Fi wakes it.
  • Other televisions need wake on LAN or network standby turned on in their own settings, and their network (MAC) address, which you set up on an Android phone: hold the television in Settings → Devices.

If it does not wake, the phone says why: Could not send the wake signal — put this phone on the same Wi-Fi as the TV, or that the TV did not wake up and wake on LAN or network standby needs turning on in its settings.

  • The device that approves must be signed in to your account. A television says Sign in on this TV to connect your other devices to it.
