Describe it: search with Gemini

When you do not remember a name, describe what you want: a 90s comedy with Jim Carrey, something like Interstellar, a Scandinavian crime series with a female detective, or what is on today with Real Madrid. Google Gemini suggests the titles, teams or channels you mean, and IPTV Deck shows which of them your playlists have.

It needs Google Gemini connected with your own API key. A free key works.

  • Phone and tablet: in Search, tap Describe it next to Filters.
  • Television, Windows, the Mac, LG and Samsung TVs: in Search in the side menu, choose Describe it next to Search in.

Type your description and choose Ask Gemini, or pick one of the examples. Each question is one request to Gemini; nothing is sent while you type.

Without a key, Describe it says what it needs: on a phone you can paste the key right there, on a television choose Enter the key on your phone and send it from your phone.

IPTV Deck first asks Gemini and checks every suggestion against your playlists, then shows the result in one go, so the list does not change while you look at it.

  • In your playlists: the films and series you can play now, best match first. Open one as usual.
  • Not in your playlists: the other suggestions, in a short list folded under its count, each marked Not in your playlists. They are not playable here. Tap one, or press OK on it, to search your playlists for that name yourself, for example when your provider spells it differently.
  • When none of the suggestions is in your playlists, one line at the top says so, and the list below is open.

For a match, a team, a league or a kind of channel, you get what is on your channels On now and Later today, and channels that fit, taken from your TV guide. Looked for shows what was searched, for example Real Madrid, Real Madryt. If nothing on your channels in the next day matches, the screen says so.

Hidden categories and channels, locked categories and, on a Kids profile, adult categories never show up in the results. On a Kids profile Gemini is also asked to suggest only what suits children.

Only the words you type go to Google, with the language of the app, today’s date and whether a Kids profile is in use, straight from your device under your own key. Your playlists, channels and library never leave the device: the app looks up Gemini’s suggestions in them itself. Google’s terms and limits for your key apply.

A question costs a fraction of a cent on a paid key and fits easily in the free limits.
